Frequently Asked Questions <Previous Page>

These FAQ's are divided into three sections to help you find the information you are looking for:

Assessment of Children & Young People

Assessment of Adults

Therapy & Counselling

Assessment of Children & Young People

What happens during the assessment process?

When you have made an appointment for your child's assessment, you will be asked to complete a Family Questionnaire. You will also be asked to invite your child's school to complete a School Questionnaire. These questionnaires need to be returned to us in advance of the appointment. The information received from these two questionnaires is very helpful in preparing for the assessment, as well as in analysing the results.

On the day of the assessment the psychologist will chat with you briefly before the assessment begins, and will then spend around two hours with your child. During the assessment your child will be asked to carry out a range of tasks, which most children find very enjoyable. When the tests have been completed, the psychologist will discuss the results with you and make recommendations as to what action to take. The psychologist will give you two copies of a summary sheet to take away with you so that you are able to discuss findings with your child’s school immediately.

How quickly do we receive the report?

Two copies of a confidential report are sent to the home address (or commissioning organisation) within approximately three weeks of the assessment. The report will set out the results, findings and recommendations. The psychologist will contact you during the week after the report has been sent in order to answer any queries you may have.

Who else sees the information from the assessment and the report?

We will only share information from the assessment and the report with third parties if written consent has been obtained from you or your child after he/she reaches the age of 18 years. We distroy all raw data but keep an electronic copy of the report on file for six years after which it is distroyed unless you request us to remove it earlier. You can request a copy of the report during this period. Your child can obtain a copy of the report (if it still exists) without your consent once he/she reaches the age of 18 years.

What about payment?

A non-refundable fee of £50 is payable on booking the appointment and should be sent to us in the form of a cheque well in advance of the appointment. This amount will be taken off the full assessment fee on the day of the appointment.
Please note if this fee has not reached us as confirmation of your attendance three days after your booking, then your appointment time may be given to another client. Our psychologists are paid regardless of attendance and this fee covers some of the administrative costs involved.

The full assessment fee is payable by cheque or cash at the beginning of the assessment. You will be given a VAT invoice for the amount.

If the assessment is being paid for by an organisation (e.g. Social Services) we can invoice directly on receipt of a Purchase Order.

Assessment of Adults

What happens during the assessment process?

When you have made an appointment for an assessment, you will be asked to complete the Adult Questionnaire. You will also be asked to invite your work place (if appropriate) to complete a Workplace Questionnaire. These questionnaires need to be returned to us in advance of the appointment. The information received from these two questionnaires is very helpful in preparing for the assessment, as well as in analysing the results.

When the tests have been completed, the psychologist will discuss the results with you and make recommendations as to what action to take. The psychologist will give you two copies of a summary sheet to take away with you so that you are able to discuss findings with your workplace immediately if you so wish.

Therapy & Counselling

Do I have to book a number of sessions in advance?

No, the idea of the therapy is for you to reach your goals as quickly as possible and until therapy starts no-one can calculate the number of sessions that will be required. Clients normally only attend for around 4 fortnightly sessions in a block and then, if necessary, return for further sessions as and when they choose.

Do you keep notes on me?

Yes, in order to refresh his/her memory prior to seeing you again, the therapist will write some brief confidential notes about what was discussed after every session. These notes will be distroyed after the end of your therapy. You can request to view the notes at our offices during this period. Your child can view the notes at our offices without your consent once he/she reaches the age of 18 years.

We will only share the information contained in these notes with third parties if written consent has been obtained from you or your child after he/she reaches the age of 18 years.

What about payment?

The agreed fee is paid at the beginning of each session by cash or cheque. Please note that our therapists are paid regardless of attendance and we respectfully request that appointments are cancelled (wherever possible) with a minimum of 24 hours notice. You may be charged a cancellation fee for late notification.
