FocusPsychology was established in 2006 by Dr Jagdish Barn, educational psychologist, and has been providing psychological services for the advancement of children, young people and their families ever since. Our team is based in South Yorkshire and consists of educational psychologists, speech and language therapist, occupational therapist and specialist SENCo. We invite additional expertise (e.g. specialist therapists) to support our core team as required.
We are a small, friendly and reflective team, outward facing in our approach and keen to collaborate with other agencies and professionals. We are proud to have developed leading edge practice since our inception and are always learning from each other, wider colleagues and, most importantly, the children, young people and families we are privileged to work with.
We are specialists in empowering change for children and young people who have endured adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and developmental trauma and are exhibiting social emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs as a result. We also have an in depth understanding of acculturation and how ethnicity, cultural constructs and political and social systems impact settlement in the UK of individuals and/or families that have emigrated, seeking asylum or of refugee status.
Our fully qualified psychologists and therapists are registered with our regulatory body, the Health and Care Professions Council. Our psychologists are also chartered members of the British Psychological Society.
